The View: One of St. Lucia’s Greatest Luxuries

One thing you’ll never have a shortage of in St. Lucia is an unforgettable view.

This island is famously mountainous, which means that from almost anywhere, you’re treated to sweeping sights of the Caribbean Sea, rolling green hills, and dramatic coastlines. On especially clear days, you can even spot Martinique across the water—close enough to remind you how uniquely positioned St. Lucia is in the Eastern Caribbean.

What still amazes me every visit is how homes are built directly into mountainsides and along cliffs, creating postcard-worthy views that feel both daring and peaceful at the same time. It’s part of what makes traveling here feel special before Carnival even begins.

The Road Is an Adventure Too

Driving in St. Lucia is an experience all on its own. The roads are narrow, winding, and steep—twisting up and down the mountains like a roller coaster. It can feel intimidating at first, especially if you’re not used to island driving, but the reward is unmatched scenery around every turn.

Because of the island’s terrain, most villas, hotels, and Airbnbs offer incredible vantage points. After a few days, you might find yourself tempted to take it all for granted—but I never do. I still pause, look out, and take it all in. The views never get old.

Travel Tip for First-Time Visitors

If this is your first trip to St. Lucia, I strongly recommend not renting a car. Instead, book transportation with an experienced local driver who knows the roads well. That way, you can relax, enjoy the scenery, and arrive at Carnival events stress-free—without worrying about navigating hairpin turns or narrow mountain roads.

A Soft Carnival Connection

When planning your St. Lucia Carnival experience, where you stay and how you get around matters just as much as which fetes you attend. Choosing accommodations with a view—and reliable local transportation—can completely elevate your trip from good to unforgettable.

If you’re thinking about visiting St. Lucia for Carnival (or even outside of the season), keep an eye on CarnivalAndTravel.com and The St. Lucia Carnival Insider. I regularly share insights on where to stay, how to move around the island, and how to experience St. Lucia beyond the road march.

Because Carnival is incredible—but the views? They’re what make you fall in love with the island.
