When people ask me where to stay for St. Lucia Carnival, my answer is always rooted in experience—not hype. For my first Carnival in 2023, my family and I stayed in a gated Airbnb on the bay in Rodney Bay, and that decision shaped how we experienced the entire island.

Why Rodney Bay Is One of the Best Areas to Stay for Carnival

Rodney Bay puts you in the center of everything that matters during Carnival—without feeling chaotic.

Our place was:

• Walking distance to the beach

• Close to restaurants and local food spots

• Near the main shopping and nightlife areas

• Literally on the water

Some mornings, we’d wake up and see a local vendor pull up by boat, selling fresh fruit and local delicacies right from the bay. That’s not a tour. That’s everyday Lucian life.

Carnival Is the Event — But the Stay Is the Experience

Yes, we came for Carnival.

Yes, we went to the fetes.

Yes, we hit the road.

But what made it special was the balance.

We had real downtime—time to relax, eat well, go to the beach, and slow the pace. Lucian Carnival isn’t just about nonstop partying. It’s about energy, culture, and rhythm. And where you stay determines whether you experience the island as a visitor or as a Lucian.

Why I Don’t Recommend All-Inclusive Resorts for Carnival

This might surprise some people, but I’ll say it plainly:

All-inclusive resorts aren’t ideal for Carnival.

They’re comfortable, sure—but they separate you from the culture. Resorts are designed to keep you inside. Carnival is meant to pull you into the community.

When you stay within a neighborhood:

• You hear the music in the distance

• You interact with locals daily

• You move on island time, not resort time

That’s the difference between attending Carnival and truly experiencing St. Lucia Carnival.

My Advice for First-Timers Planning St. Lucia Carnival

If this is your first time coming to Carnival, here’s my honest advice:

• Choose Rodney Bay or nearby communities

• Look for gated Airbnbs or villas

• Prioritize walkability and access to food, beaches, and nightlife

• Don’t overpay for amenities you won’t use during Carnival week

Where you stay will shape your Carnival story more than you realize.
